Try Indo-Row classes only at the Davis YMCA

The Davis YMCA is proud to be the first YMCA in the country to offer Indo-Row classes to our facility.  This total body cardio-based workout is fun, easy to learn and will bring out the competitor in everyone. We offer many classes throughout the week; please refer to our Group Exercise schedule to find a class that meets your needs.  Indo-Row does require a 24 hour in advance sign-up to secure a rower.  Please call 777-9622 to save a spot.

New Member Personal Training

New members can sign up for a special personal training package within 30 days of signing up for your membership. Our new member personal training package is 4 sessions for $120.  This is a great way to get started on the road to a healthier future.  Packages can be purchased at our Membership Desks.

 

 Activtrax

Activtrax is a free and comprehensive wellness and nutrition program available to all YMCA members.  Please stop by the Wellness Desk to make an appointment to complete your Activtrax Strength test.  One of our Wellness Coaches will assist you with the test and will input the results to set-up your customized Activtrax account.  Members can print out customized workouts from the branch kiosk, at home or even download workouts to your smart phone.  From home members can also set up a nutrition plan to complement your workout goals.  Everytime you come to the YMCA you can have a workout customized just for you – just ask a Wellness Coach how to get started today! 

Kinesis Training

The Davis YMCA is the exclusive provider of Technogym Kinesis One Personal Training.  The Kinesis One is designed to allow for proper biomechanical movement through all ranges of motion.  Independent weight stacks mean you and a trainer can customize your workout to meet your specific needs.  Kinesis sessions are just 30 minutes so they can easily fit your busy lifestyle.  If you have more questions about Kinesis training please contact Health and Well-Being Director, Karen Tindal at (865) 777-9622.

Class Descriptions

Cardio Classes –  Workouts with your heart and mind

Cardio Club

This 45 minute high-energy morning class combines step and floor aerobics for a  great cardio class!

Step/Step-Abs

A 45 minute class utilizing the step to provide an overall cardiovascular workout.  This class is fast-paced and fun with choreography to keep you challenged– come ready to break a sweat!  The Step/Abs options will include with an awesome Core routine.

Kickbox Drills & Abs

Don’t let the length of this 30 minute class fool you – it is fun but tough.  Kickboxing drills will have you punching and kicking while strengthening your core and improving your flexibility.  The class will also include floor work to strengthen both the abdominals and the lower back.

Saturday Step

Step into your weekend with our Saturday Step class.  This 60 minute step workout is great for improving cardiovascular endurance and improving step technique.  The class will also include some muscular endurance training and core work.

ZUMBA®

 Dance your way to a fitter body with this easy to follow class inspired by music and rhythms from around the globe.  This class is more like a party than a workout – bring a friend and join the excitement!

Boot Camp

A good way to jump start your fitness routine.  Boot Camp is designed for the hard-core fitness participant.  The instructor will lead you through a variety of drills designed to make you sweat and burn some major calories.  This class is limited to 20 participants so please call ahead to reserve your spot.

Spin Classes

Cardio training at its best!

Spin

Group cycling led by Instructor.  45 minute classes that provide a great cardio workout. Appropriate for all levels of fitness – but please come to class 10 minutes early and let the instructor know if you are new to ensure proper bike set-up.  Give it a try!  Due to the limited number of bikes you must sign up for this class at the courtesy counter or by calling 777-9622.  Please come with a full water bottle and towel – you will sweat.

Indo-Row – The perfect calorie burn! This 50 min cardiovascular conditioning class uses the Indo-Rowers to create the feel of racing out on the lake.  Indo-Row is a total body workout where 60% of the power is generated through the legs, 20% through the core and 20% through the arms.  Please be sure to bring a towel and water to this workout.  Call 24 hours in advance of class to reserve your rower.

Strength training classes – Increase your lean muscle mass

Total Body

Progressive resistance class utilizing a plate-loaded bar.  50 minutes provides a complete weight workout.   You will focus on improving your overall strength and body composition.  To ensure all participants have equipment please sign up for this class at the courtesy desk or by calling 777-9622.

On the Ball

This 30 minute class offering uses the Stability balls, Medicine Balls and Bender balls to give you’re a well-rounded workout.  Core work is always included.

Muscle Mania

This class combines cardiovascular conditioning with strength training in a fun and energizing workout.

Mind Body Classes

Appropriate for all fitness levels

Pilates

Core training appropriate for all levels of fitness.  This is a mat class which utilities the Joseph Pilates method.  Strengthens the powerhouse and improves flexibility.  A perfect cross-training workout.

Yoga

A 60 min class perfect for building strength, endurance and flexibility in all areas of the body.  Yoga will also help you reduce stress and bring balance to your busy life.

Daybreak Yoga

A 45 minute class that will energize the body and soul so you can face the day with confidence.  Flowing poses will get the body moving and improve your flexibility and core strength.

Yoga Lite

A Yoga class suitable for beginners and seniors or anyone wanting a gentle approach to Yoga.

Power Flow Yoga

This class will follow a dynamic flow sequence for those already experienced in Yoga.

Classes for the young at heart

Silver Sneakers® MSROM

Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills.  Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance, and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.

Silver Sneakers® Cardio Circuit

Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout.  Upper body strength work  with hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball is alternated with non-impact aerobic choreography.  A chair is offered for support,  stretching, and relaxation exercises.

Silver Splash®

This class contains light to moderate movement that may be modified by the instructor or participant to effectively and successfully achieve an improved state of well-being, regardless of disabilities.

Aquatic Classes

H2O Aerobics

Have fun in the pool while improving your fitness level.  H2O Aerobics will burn calories and tone muscles.  This class is a cardio and strength workout that is easy on your joints.

1/2 +1/2 H2O

Water Aerobics at both end of the pool.  This class will be taught in both the shallow and the deep water

Aqua Zumba

If you enjoy Zumba classes and love the water Aqua Zumba is a great choice.  This 45 minute class is filled with energizing music and fun movements to get you dancing in the water.  This is a low-impact high energy class that will make you smile. 

Additional Classes

Meet the Challenge

This class meets at 7pm on Monday evening for mentally and physically challenged adults.  Each week the instructor focuses on a different skill.

Youth Fitness

This class is for our members ages  7-14 and meets on Mondays and Thursdays from 4-6pm.  A member of our Wellness staff will provide supervised fitness activities to promote youth fitness.  Stay for 30 minutes or the whole two hours.
