Swim Lessons

Swim lessons are offered at the Bob Temple North Side YMCA on Tuesday and Thursday evenings between 5:00pm and 7:00pm and now Saturday mornings between 9:00am and 10:30am.

All Saturday sessions are $25 for members and $37 for non-members.  These classes will meet 4 times each month rather than 8.

During the summer sessions, day-time lessons are available Monday-Thursday for 2 weeks between 10:00am and 1:00pm.

Class Ages, Levels & Descriptions

PARENT/CHILD: Ages  6 months to 36 months

Description = 30 minute class introduces safety awareness and provides opportunity to develop pre-swimming skills in a fun atmosphere.

Cost: $25.00 for members, $37.00 for program participants

Preschool Lessons: Ages 3-5 years old

PIKE: Cannot swim on their own; learns to kick, float, blow bubbles, and swim with flotation device.

EEL: Comfortable in the water; puts face in, swims short distance with and without a float; begins paddle stroke and swims some on the back.

RAY: Swims without floatation; works on stroke development and increases endurance

Cost: $55.00 for members, $70.00 for program participants for 8 30-minute classes

Youth Lessons: Ages 6 and up

GUPPY: Builds confidence and skill development; learns to kick, submerge, and float.

FISH: Comfortable in the water; learns crawl stroke with rotary breathing and continues to build on skills and endurance learned in “Guppy”

SHARK: Works on all four competitive strokes, starting dives, and turns; adds to strength and endurance; builds on skills learned in “Fish”

Cost:  $55.00 for members, $70.00 for program participants for 8 45-minute classes

Private Swim Lessons

Private Swim Lessons are available o every age group and level of swimming ability.  Private lessons are available year-round to meet your schedule.  Classes are 30 minutes in length and provide one-on-one interaction with a swim instructor.  These are sold in packages of 4 lessons.

Member Cost:  4 lessons for $70
Guest Cost:  4 lessons for $105

Buddy lessons are available for two simmers of similar swimming ability.  Buddy lessons are also available year-round to meet your schedule.  Classes are 30 minutes in length and give a stduent one-on-one attention from an instructor with the addition of being able to learn and enjoy the water with a friend.  These are sold in packages of 4 lessons.

Member Cost:  4 lessons for $60/student
Guest Cost:  4 lessons for $85/student

Swim Lesson Policies

Classes must be paid in fuull at the time of registration.  Classes in which no one has registered will be cancelled the day prior to start date.

Three students must register for a class to continue as scheduled (full session).  If only two students register for a class, the class will meet 6 times instead of 8.  If only one student registers for a class, we will provide 4 private lessons instead of 8 group lessons.

Make-up days are provided only if the YMCA cancels a class.  THERE ARE NO REFUNDS FOR CLASSES OR SESSIONS NOT ATTENDED.  The YMCA has discretion for credits due to extenuating circumstances.  Make-up classes may not always be done at the regularly scheduled class time or date.

In case of thunder or lightning, the pool will close.  If these conditions occur, please call your YMCA.  If at all possible, we will try to contact you prior to your lesson.

Depending on availability, registration for classes will end 48 hours before the session start date.
