On this date in 1844, George Williams founded the first YMCA in Industrial Revolution-era London to help young people address the social changes impacting their communities.
George Williams was only 22 years old when he pulled people together from a small prayer group to form what is now a globe-trotting movement serving 58 million individuals.
We’re celebrating the global YMCA’s 175th birthday and our legacy of bringing people together to strengthen communities.
Our Y has so much to offer; and it’s our members who make us what we are today!
