Creative Movement/Youth Dance

At the Y, we help children find outlets for creativity, movement, and a love for healthy lifestyles. Find your location below to learn about dance class options.

Cansler Family Y, Pilot Family Y, & Tennova Y

All dance programs are run by qualified Y staff who have a background in dance and movement.  Register and pay through the YMCA.

• No previous dance experience required.
• No special dance shoes or attire required. Although leotards are not required, they are welcome! Please have children wear comfortable clothes with a shirt that is able to tuck in so they can move and/or tumble with ease!
• Cost: $30/month for Y Members; $55/month for Non Members.
• Y instructors are experienced in various dance and tumbling styles as well as instruction for children and adults of all ages.

Tumble Bugs (Ages 3-5):  Cansler Y & Pilot Y

This class will have you rolling like a log, pressing up to a bridge, and touching your toes to head for a seal stretch. Children will learn body awareness through fun strengthening exercises, flexibility, and balance games. This is a great introduction to tumbling and acrobatic movement. Leaping Lizards Ballet (Ages 3-5): Cansler Y & Pilot Y

Beginner dancers will learn basic ballet positions, movements, ballet vocabulary, and more all while strengthening their muscles, moving to the music, and improving their dance posture. Find upcoming classes and register today!

Creative Movement (Ages 3-5): Tennova Y

This introductory to dance class will help little movers with creative minds start to learn how to set that creativity to music! We begin by learning basic dance skills such as balance, knowledge of movement, rhythm, and much more. Find upcoming classes and register today!

Creative Movement (Ages 6-12): Tennova Y

This hip-hop/jazz-inspired class is geared toward kids who love to move and want to learn how to start putting that movement to music! We focus our time on building confidence in basic dance skills such as rhythm, improvisation, coordination, and more. These future dancers will work on basic dance skills through practicing a dance-centered warm-up, learning new steps, working on beginner combinations, and having fun! Davis Family Y

The Davis Family Y partners with Stretch N Grow of East Tennessee to offer dance and movement classes for Y members and program participants.  Register and pay via the Stretch N Grow website.

• To register, parents will click the “Parents” button and create an account in the Parent Portal.  From the Parent Portal, you will see class offerings for the Davis Family Y.
• Participants at the Y receive a waived registration fee using code SAVE30/25

2025 Session Offerings:

All Star Gymnastics (Ages 2.5-5 & 6-10): Spring

Our All-Star Gymnasts learn basic tumbling skills through progressions designed to build strength, flexibility, balance, coordination and endurance.

• April 7th – June 2nd; no class May 26th for holiday
• Ages 2.5 – 5: Mondays from 4:30 – 5:15pm in Studio B
• Ages 6-10: Mondays from 5:30-6:15pm in Studio B
• $120 for Y Members; $145 for Non-Members

Dance Stars Dance Party Summer Hip Hop & Showcase (Ages 3-5 & 6-8): Summer

When children are inspired by their imagination to move, our Dance Stars instructors know how to match their high energy and enthusiasm through dance.  This summer hip hop 8 week session will end with an end of summer showcase.

• June 5th – July 31st (no class July 4th)
• Ages 3-5: Thursdays from 5:00 – 5:45 pm in Studio B
• Ages 6-8: Thursdays from 6:00 – 6:45pm in Studio B
• $125 for Y Members; $150 for Non-Members
• $30 Showcase Fee invoiced through Stretch N Grow for shorts and top
• Showcase held on July 31st at the Y in Studio B during scheduled class time

Dance Stars Ballet with Dance Recital (Ages 3-5 & 6-8): Fall/Winter

This 15 week ballet session will end with an off-site recital at Farragut Church of Christ.

• August 21st – December 11th (closed 1 week in October for Fall Break and 1 week in November for Thanksgiving)
• Ages 3-5: Thursdays from 5:00 – 5:45 pm in Studio B
• Ages 6-8: Thursdays from 6:00 – 6:45pm in Studio B
• $230 for Y Members; $255 for Non-Members
• $85 Recital Fee due before costume orders
