YMCA OF EAST TENNESSEE MEMBER POLICIES

AGE REQUIREMENTS

The YMCA prides itself on welcoming all.  We also work to create a safe and family-friendly environment.  With these goals in mind, please abide by the following age requirements:

DROP-OFF AGE

  • Children 14 and older are welcome to visit the YMCA without a parent or guardian
  • Children 13 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian 18 years or older
  • Members and guests of all ages, with and without parent/guardian supervision, are asked to behave in an appropriate manner and follow proper safety guidelines.  Any unsafe behavior, inappropriate behavior, or violations of our Code of Conduct may result in suspension of membership privileges or access to our facility or programs. 

WELLNESS CENTER

  • Children 14 and older are welcome to use all equipment in the Wellness Center without parent/guardian supervision
  • Children ages 8-13 must be supervised by a parent or guardian in the Wellness Center

o   Children ages 10-13 may use all equipment when supervised

o   Children ages 8-9 may only use cardio equipment; please refrain from using weights and strength machines, even when supervised by a parent or guardian

  • Children younger than 8 may be approved to use cardio equipment on a case-by-case basis by a Wellness Director.  Approval will be noted on your digital membership record.

GROUP EXERCISE CLASSES

  • Children 14 and older are welcome to attend group exercise classes without parent/guardian supervision
  • Children ages 12-13 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian in all group exercise classes
  • Children younger than 12 may be approved to attend classes on a case-by-case basis by a Wellness Director.  Approval will be noted on your digital membership record.

BASKETBALL GYM

  • Children 8 and older are welcome to use the basketball gym without parent/guardian supervision
  • Children 7 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian in the basketball gym

SWIMMING POOL

  • Children 14 and older may swim without parent/guardian supervision
  • Children 8-13 who are able to pass a swim test (Green Necklace) may swim unattended as long as a parent/guardian is on YMCA property
  • Children 7 and younger who are able to pass a swim test (Green Necklace) must have a parent/guardian present on the pool deck
  • Regardless of age, Yellow Necklace Swimmers must have a parent or guardian on the pool deck at all times
  • Regardless of age, Red Necklace Swimmers must have a parent or guardian in the water at all times

CHILD WATCH

  • Children 6 weeks to 12 years old are welcome in Child Watch for up to 2 hours per day.  Parent/guardian must stay on YMCA property at all times.

LOCKER ROOMS

  • Please have all children 6 and older use the gender appropriate locker room.  Family changing rooms / universal changing areas are available.

Code of Conduct

Respecting the rights and dignity of others is the key to creating a safe, enjoyable family atmosphere.  At the YMCA, we take great pride in our ability and desire to service the needs of our members while exemplifying the mission, vision, and values.

  • Always speak to others in a respectful tone.
  • Never use vulgar or derogatory language.
  • Never use physical or threatening gestures, words, or actions.
  • Refrain from any intimate behavior or contact of a sexual nature.
  • Respect others’ property and valuables.
  • All use and/or possession of tobacco products, alcohol, and illegal drugs are prohibited on YMCA property.
  • Any type of firearm, knife, or illegal weapon is prohibited on YMCA property.
  • The Y maintains a family-friendly atmosphere.  Please use discretion and proper etiquette in locker rooms at all times.

Membership Agreement

  • If my membership dues are paid through credit card or electronic funds transfer, I understand that this is a continuous membership plan.  I must notify the YMCA in writing prior to my draft date (1st or 15th) if I wish to cancel my membership.  A $30 return fee will be charged for all refused debits.
  • All membership rates are subject to change with 30-day written notice.  I understand it is my responsibility to notify the YMCA of any change in address, bank account information, or credit card information/expiration date.
  • The joining fee is a one-time fee as long as I remain an active member of the YMCA.  If I choose to cancel or discontinue my membership for more than 90 days, a Joining Fee will be charged when I reapply for membership.
  • Membership dues are not subject to refund.
